HETHERSETT HAWKS / YELLOW BRICK MORTGAGES travelled to the West Midlands to contest the British Club Championships, facing the top sides in the country at Open and Under-16 level at Wednesfield.
The Open side faced reigning champions Gt.Blakenham and the home side in their Semi-Final. Captain Leigh Cossey led from the front with one win in his 11 points but, with Harley Hamill hampered by a football injury, they were always going to struggle. Up stepped youngster Charlie Lyth for two rides, one of which he won, to help the Hawks finish joint third with Newport but outside the top two qualifying spots.

Charlie Lyth was in top form in the Under-16 event dropping just one point and Paul Delaiche reeled off four second-laces top give the side a chance. However, the short-sighted change in regulations which prevented teams using any rider Under-13 restricted the Hawks to just three riders and maybe explained why only three teams committed to the event. Still good experience for the Hawks juniors.

Charlie Lyth then made his way up the M6 to represent the South-East & Eastern Region on Sunday in their Junior Battle of Britain match against the North & Scotland. He had a good afternoon winning four of his six races to finish on 19 points.
Juniors will be back in the Midlands on Saturday for the final National Round of the British Youth & Junior League Grand Prix at Birmingham. Sunday sees the curtain come down on matches at Hethersett for the season with the staging of the Breckland Autos Charity Cup at 2 p.m. Tuesday Club Nights will continue until October 29th.
